10 questions with Barrett Klesko Lead Vocalist/Guitarist from All Else Fails

Its another edition of 10 questions  with.......Barrett Klesko Lead Vocalist/Guitarist from All Else Fails

1)  How long have you been playing your instrument
I started playing guitar when I was 12, so for about 18 years.

2)  At what age did you start listening to Metal
Roughly at the same time, I bought a Metallica tab book, ...and justice for all, and it was all uphill from there!

3)  Which Band or Bands introduced you to Heavy Metal
Metallica for sure, but I was really into early Machine Head, Black Sabbath, Slayer etc... Pretty much the staples of metal were what got me started.

4)  What are some of your favourite Metal Band
I'll be listing those for the rest of forever, but I still really love Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Scar Symmetry, and a lot of the old albums from bands who have since burned themselves out, like Machine Head, Soulfly, and the like.

5)  In your opinion which Metal band is the true Grandfather of Heavy Metal
Sabbath, no question, a lot of their sound is inherently built in to the metal genre itself. Though I do think the Doors were the heaviest band of all time...

6)  Are there any other Genres or sub-genres set apart from your current style of music that you listen to personally.( if i was to look in your IPOD library what would we find)
You would find a lot of different music. Before I was really into metal, I was really big into the grunge scene, and my love for that has stayed around. I listen to a lot of punk as well, and you would find the occasional Industrial disc in there as well.

7)  Was your choice of instrument, influenced in anyway by possible band postioning?  (IE choose drums because you didn’t want to be up front)
Of course it was! I was just getting into my teens, I wanted to play guitar to meet girls. That IS what it's for, right?

8)  How would  you best describe your music and who are your influences
All the members in our band have a vast array of influences, from Jazz to punk, to death metal, to industrial, so that list would be ridiculous, but I think it shows in our music. That makes it a little hard to classify though, since we kinda just sound like us, so I usually just say Fuck sub-genres, we're a metal band, period.

9)  What do you like or dislike about playing a live show?
There is nothing to dislike, for 30-60 minutes, I'm up onstage sweating under the lights and giving everything I have into the music I love for people who want to hear it. What could be better?

10)  Lastly what is the most F!cked up thing you have ever seen or experienced at a live show you have performed
You know it’s funny, I can't really say anything too crazy has ever really happened. There have been small things like knocking out a kid in the front row with my guitar (by accident mind you), and some really cool moments like musicians from bands we were opening for coming out on stage with us unexpectedly, but I can honestly say I have never seen a fan do anything bat-shit crazy enough to give you a real answer. yet.

Thank again for taking to the time to answer these questions for our listeners...you can catch them on the station and request them whenever a DJ is on the air

  1. All I can say is that we both have a similar belief in rock philosophy. Black Sabbath started it all for modern rock.
