10 questions with Emily Lazar from September Mourning...

hey everyone its another exciting edition of 10 questions with...
............Emily Lazar from September Mourning...

1)      How long have you been playing your instrument.
I've been singing and performing my whole life. My home is on a stage.

2)      At what age did you start listening to Metal.
I started listening to metal at like 19... after i got out of my punk stage, i wanted something heavier and sonically richer.

3)  Which Band or Bands introduced you to Heavy Metal.
My uncle is a huge metal head and loves Norwegian Black metal, so i started in on that level listening to bands like Mayhem and Gorgoroth. I loved the theatrics of that scene... He also intro'd me to classic metal bands like Slayer, Venom, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath etc

4)  What are some of your favourite Metal Bands
Since I'm a vocalist I tend to admire metal bands whose singer has an epic sense of character along with some of the more theatrical bands... Dio, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Kiss, Slayer, Nightwish, X Japan, Killswitch Engage, Metallica

5)  In your opinion which Metal band is the true Grandfather of Heavy Metal
I would have to say Ronnie James Dio,

6) Are there any other Genres or sub-genres set apart from your current style of music that you listen to personally.( if i was to look in your IPOD library what would we find)
I listen to everything from Classical to hip hop to Black Metal. I believe being an artist means exploring everything and learning to draw from lots of different influences to make your own unique art.

7) Was your choice of instrument, influenced in anyway by possible band positioning?  (IE choose drums because you didn’t want to be up front)
Not really. Always been a singer and performer.

8) How would  you best describe your music and who are your influences
Like i said I believe being an artist means exploring everything and learning to draw from lots of different influences to make your own unique art... and so we have with this project. Our music is an amalgamation of hard rock and metal with a theatrical element and a dark culture aspect to it.

9) What do you like or dislike about playing a live show?
I LOVE everything about playing live. There is nothing to dislike. I love meeting new people and sharing our music with them. Each show is different, never 2 the exact same. There is no editing. What you see is what you get. The energy of live shows is contagious. The fans are amazing. I figure I am a very lucky person to have the job I do.

10) Lastly what is the most F!cked up thing you have ever seen or experienced at a live show you have performed.
I once jumped off stage onto a barricade in heels and ended up twisting my ankle real bad. Couldn't walk after the show, swelled up the size of a watermelon... but i was at it the next day on stage because you can't let your fans down. They are the reason you are there in the first place.

A Very special thanks to "M" for taking the time out to allow us all to get to know her better...
