10 questions with Jordan of RoTTen Rails

10 questions with Jordan of RoTTen Rails

here we are another edition of 10 questions with...

1)      How long have you been playing your instrument
I have been playing guitar on and off since the 4th grade. It wasn't until I moved in with our bass player Shaun in 2005 and started plucking away on his shitty Yamaha bass (that we used for pellet gun target practise during camping trips )that I really got back into playing full time.

2)      At what age did you start listening to Metal
I would say 11-12

3)      Which Band or Bands introduced you to Heavy Metal
I can still remember my dad dusting off the record player to show me Black Sabbaths album Paranoid. All you need is to hear War Pigs for the first time, and you know what metal is all about bro.

4)      What are some of your favourite Metal Bands
Although I love the classics deeply, Slayer, Pantera, Sabbath,Metallica,Megadeth. My heart truly lies in the Nu metal of early 2000s and late 90s. Bands like Mudvayne, Slipknot, Snot, KoRn,Limp,Deftones is what really speaks to me. The massive ups and downs, breakdowns and grooves.

5)      In your opinion which Metal band is the true Grandfather of Heavy Metal
Black mother fucking Sabbath dude. Hands down

6)      Are there any other Genres or sub-genres set apart from your current style of music that you listen to personally.( if i was to look in your IPOD library what would we find)
I listen to everything. I think there is fantastic music in every genre but you really gotta search for it. Because it certainly isn't on the radio. haha. But like I said, everything, Cannibal Corpse to Elton John. I just downloaded this Sounds of Soul best of the 50s and 60s. Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, BB King. Good times man.

7)      Was your choice of instrument, influenced in anyway by possible band postioning?  (IE choose drums because you didn’t want to be up front)
I chose guitar because it felt natural. And my parents made me go to lessons when they realized I could play. I hated it at the time, but it gives you a good foundation later I think.

8)      How would  you best describe your music and who are your influences
I would describe Rotten Rails as Groovy Stoner Thrash. Not terribly technical. But heavy as fuck and real. We never really try to fit one genre but we always try to stick to the philosophy that there always has to be a groovy back beat there to keep the girls bums wigglin'!! haha
My main influences for Rotten Rails are Superjoint Ritual, Pantera, Down ,Throwdown  and BLS

9)      What do you like or dislike about playing a live show?
I love to see the people thrash !!! To see people you don't know breaking their necks and bashing their friends to somthing you've created is the best feeling I've felt. Or when people come up and shake your hand after and tell you that you killed it. Thats great too. Cheers to the Rotten Republic !!!

10)   Lastly what is the most F!cked up thing you have ever seen or experienced at a live show you have performed.
The most fucked up thing at one of our shows had to be when this dude lost a big chunk of his eye lid during our set. After we were done I was out side the bar gettin some air and he was gettin patched up by the bouncer.  "What happend man?" I asked. "You guys happened..." he replied. AHAHAH He was nice enough to let me snap a pic with him on my celly before he left for the ER. ada boy
