(#21819) Its another edition of 10 Questions with
How long have you been playing your instrument?
- Close to 5 years now, I guess. I started playing the Bass when I joined Cancer Bats. But I had been playing guitar for about 20yrs before that.
At what age did you start listening to Metal?
- I was pretty young. There was this total thrashed out metal head who lived around the corner from my parents. He looked after my sister and I while my parents were at work and he got me into a lot of metal bands. And my Mum loves Sabbath.
Which Band or Bands introduced you to Heavy Metal?
-The 2 biggest were Black Sabbath and Metallica. Sabbath's self-titled album and Metallica's "Masters of Puppets" were the heaviest things I had ever heard.
What are some of your favourite Metal Bands?
- Sabbath is my all time favourite band, ever. But I loved Megadeth, Metallica, bands like that. As I got older, I got really into Sleep and Electric Wizard and Neurosis.
In your opinion which Metal band is the true Grandfather of Heavy Metal?
- Well I've said their name I think in every answer so far, but whatever. Black Sabbath are the true Grandfathers of Metal. Without a doubt.

Are there any other Genres or sub-genres set apart from your current style of music that you listen to personally.( if i was to look in your IPOD library what would we find)?
- I like all kinds of music outside of the metal genre. I am heavy into the Blues, like Leadbelly and Blind Willie McTell. I grew up listening to a lot of Canadian Indie Rock as well. Skate Punk, Thrash, Country Music, Hip-Hop, Sludge Metal. I can usually find something in most genres of music that I can really dig.
Was your choice of instrument, influenced in anyway by possible band positioning? (IE choose drums because you didn't want to be up front)
- I play Bass with the Cancer Bats because they needed a bass player and they knew I could transition from guitar to bass fairly easy. And Scott can shred circles around me so...ya hahaha.
How would you best describe your music and who are your influences?
- I like to think of ourselves as a Metal band. But we kind of adopt different elements from all genres of metal. For example stoner metal. Just to make stuff groovy. Or thrash just so we can try to headbang as hard and as fast as possible haaha.
What do you like or dislike about playing a live show?
- The only time I ever dislike a show is when any of my gear fucks up. Which is more my end of the show, and nothing about the audience or anything. Otherwise, I kind of always love playing shows.
Lastly what is the most F!cked up thing you have ever seen or experienced at a live show you have performed?
- Hmmm tough question. I'm not sure if its the most fucked up thing ever, but we were playing a show in Denver a few years back when mid set we noticed a couple in the balcony fucking each other haaha. We shouted them out and had the whole crowd turn and watch them. It was awesome.
