The Almighty Excruciating Pain #12387

So its now time for another Edition of 10 questions with

The Time with Pat Peeve from Vancouvers very own The Almighty Excruciating Pain

Pat Peeve - Guitarist

1) How long have you been playing your instrument
- I started playing when i was 13 years old so... 12 years now holy fuck time flies!
2) At what age did you start listening to Metal
-Likely 11 or 12.  I think And justice for all was my first metal record.
3) Which Band or Bands introduced you to Heavy Metal
For me i was a punk rocker when i was younger and when i started playing guitar I kinda mastered the whole punk rock thing and was looking for the next step.  Thats when i heard metallica and Slayer and they had the speed of punk but the guitar riffs were a lot more intricate and challenging to play.  Fell in love with the shit.
4) What are some of your favourite Metal Bands
My Favourite metal band is Slayer.  Im huge into thrash metal.  Love playing fast.  Some of the older thrash bands like the big 4 and Forbidden, Paradox, Destruction,Annihilator,  Kreator were a big influence on me.  I also love death metal.  Bands like Cannibal Corpse,  Deicide,  Vader, Malevolent Creation, Kataklysm.  I could really go on forever naming bands.  As for the newer shit these days I really like Revocation, Gross Misconduct,  and been listening to a lot of Abriosis.
5) In your opinion which Metal band is the true Grandfather of Heavy Metal
- Thats a toughy.  Not sure I can even answer that one.  For me, My grandfather would be the bay area thrash bands.  But as for who came first?  we could argue about that all day.  Maybe Sabbath?
6) Are there any other Genres or sub-genres set apart from your current style of music that you listen to personally.( if i was to look in your IPOD library what would we find)
-Lots of Punk.  I've been getting into jazz,  shit like Miles Davis and John Coltrane.  I pretty much listen to every style.  I listen to classical.  I have a 10 cd mozart box set thing ive been listening to.  I really like the band Hey Rosetta out of Newfoundland.  hmm what else... Lots of Beatles and Paul Mccartney.  I like Country too.  Zac Brown Band, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks.  Everything really.
7) Was your choice of instrument, influenced in anyway by possible band postioning?  (IE choose drums because you didn’t want to be up front)
-My brother had a bass guitar and I learned a bit of bass and then ended up trading a bag of weed and like 30$ for a red Mexican fender strat which i still play to this day.  My bro was in a punk band called Slim Pickens and they would play in my basement and I think thats what really gave me the bug to wanna play live.
8) How would  you best describe your music and who are your influences
-I like music that takes talent to play.  I really admire musicians who have their own sound and purposely try not to follow trends and sound like others.  A description of our music?  I think we play aggressive, melodic, punk influenced, thrashy, deathy, tasty metal.  We all have a love for different styles of music so I think we really have a hybrid style.  Come out and see us live!  We will show you a good time.
9) What do you like or dislike about playing a live show?
No dislikes.
I love seeing a crowd smiling, moshing, getting drunk, to tunes that we have written.  There really is no better reward for me.  Makes my day when someone has enjoyed our music.
10) Lastly what is the most F!cked up thing you have ever seen or experienced at a live show you have performed.

Our live shows are always chock full of fucked up shit.  We had a couple saxophone players jump on stage and play George Michael's Careless Whisper with us.  We had a GF of the band make baked goodies in the shape of our logo and we jammed them in peoples faces while we were playing. hmmm...  Split open the singers forehead with my guitar.  wow memories!
-We wanna say thanks to Stan and the Brokeneck crew for the support!  Have fun!
